The Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU), represented by its Secretary General, Brother Mezhoud Arezki, took part in the proceedings of the 10th Congress of the General Union of Saguia el-Hamra and Río de Oro Workers (UGTSARIO), held from April 18 to 21, 2025, in the Sahrawi refugee camp of Dakhla. The congress was held under the theme: “Sahrawi Workers… Commitment and Loyalty on the Path of the Martyrs.”
The opening ceremony was marked by the presence of various dignitaries, including the President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, who addressed the congress participants with an encouraging and powerful speech.
Trade union organisations from around the world gathered in solidarity with the workers and people of Western Sahara, reaffirming their commitment to justice, dignity, and workers’ rights.
Speaking at the congress, OATUU’s Secretary General emphasised the organisation’s unwavering commitment to its core principles and values. He stated that OATUU continues to stand by all just causes across Africa and the world, in line with its charter and constitution. He further noted that OATUU’s participation in this congress serves as a renewed expression of solidarity with the Sahrawi workers and people in their legitimate struggle for self-determination.
OATUU reiterates its steadfast support to the aspirations of the Sahrawi people and their right to freedom, dignity, and justice.
