Elections for the new Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO) began this morning at the organisation’s headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. In a few hours, the successor of the current Director-General, Guy Ryder will be known.
As a reminder, 5 candidates applied for this position; Mthunzi Mdwaba (South Africa), Gilbert Houngbo (Togo), Greg Vines (Australia), Kang Kyung-wha (Korea) and Muriel Pénicaud (France).
The 56 members of the Governing Council will choose the new Director-General of the ILO for a five-year term. Huge challenges related to Covid-19 and new developments in the world await the new Director-General.
