OATUU Mourns the Passing of UGTCI Secretary-General Joseph Léon Ebagnerin

The Organisation of African Trade Union Unity has received with deep sadness the news of the passing of the Secretary-General of the General Union of Workers of Côte d’Ivoire (UGTCI), Brother Joseph Léon Ebagnerin, who departed this life on 4th August 2025 after a long illness.

In a heartfelt message addressed to the leadership of UGTCI and the family of the late Secretary-General, OATUU’s Secretary-General, Brother Arezki Mezhoud conveyed sincere condolences on behalf of African trade union centres and workers. The message expressed solidarity with all who mourn this great loss, recognising the immense contribution Brother Ebagnerin made to the labour movement both in Côte d’Ivoire and across the African continent.

Brother Ebagnerin was celebrated as a committed trade unionist whose vision, integrity, and tireless dedication marked decades of service to the cause of workers.

OATUU stands in unity with the UGTCI family during this time of mourning and pledges to honour the memory of Brother Ebagnerin by continuing the fight for the values he so passionately defended.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
