OATUU Reasserts Support for Sahrawi Self-Determination at Paris Trade Union Conference

The Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) has reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination during an International Trade Union Conference on solidarity with the Sahrawi cause, held on 27th November, 2025 in Paris, France. The event was hosted by French trade unions and brought together numerous labour organisations, international associations and institutional representatives committed to defending the rights of the Sahrawi people.

Representing OATUU, the Secretary-General delivered a strong and unequivocal address, reiterating the organisation’s long-standing position in favour of the Sahrawi people’s inalienable right to determine their own future, in line with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.

In his remarks, the Secretary-General emphasised that OATUU—guided by its core principles of solidarity, social justice and respect for human rights—will continue to actively support the Sahrawi cause. He highlighted the responsibility of the international community, and particularly the global trade union movement, to champion the rights of peoples who remain deprived of sovereignty.

He also drew attention to the ongoing challenges faced by the Sahrawi people and underscored the urgent need for a peaceful and just resolution to the longstanding conflict.

The Conference provided a platform for participating delegations to discuss strategies for strengthening international solidarity, supporting Sahrawi workers and communities, and promoting lasting peace in the region.
