On the occasion of International Women’s Day this year, the Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) is calling for increased action to promote gender equality in Africa, and the world at large. Over the years, women have made immense contributions to development in various fields, however, these achievements have been overshadowed by numerous gender-related struggles, all of which have been intensified by the Covid-19 pandemic. In light of this, OATUU is urging “African trade unions to embark on vigorous campaigns for the ratification of ILO Convention 190 on violence and harassment” and calling for more initiatives geared towards women-empowerment to bridge the gender gap.
