The Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) is the only African trade union organisation that represents all the trade union tendencies in Africa. It has 60 affiliates across the African continent, with a total membership of about 25 million people.
The Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) was founded in April 1973 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Prior to its founding, three (3) Pan-African trade union organisations existed, namely:
All-African Trade Union Federation (AATUF), based in Accra, Ghana
African Trade Union Confederation (ATUC), based in Dakar, Senegal
Pan-African Workers Congress (PAWC), based in Banjul, the Gambia
Vision
To be an independent, democratic, authentic and unified Pan-African regional trade union organisation that represents the voice of workers in all African countries for the realisation of social and economic justice for all.
Mission
To strengthen the capacity of trade unions in Africa and coordinate affiliates’ activities to achieve unity and solidarity among African workers at the national, sub-regional and continental levels for the defense, protection and promotion of the rights and interests of workers and African citizens at large.
