“Cuba is a faithful partner of Africa”
His Excellency Pedro Luis Despaigne González, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Accra, Ghana, paid a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the Organization of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) on 15 October 2019.
This visit is made within the framework of the friendship and the cooperation between the African and Cuban trade union movement. He told the members of the secretariat that the bonds of cooperation and friendship between people of Cuba and the peoples of Africa are historical. He added that the resistance and the fight for independence and sovereignty are common points for them. He indicated that Cuba has faced a very harsh embargo for 60 years. He said, other measures have recently been taken against Cuba by depriving them of access to energy from Venezuela. He explained that despite these unfair sanctions against its people, Cuba will never abdicate and will continue to live with dignity.
The members of the secretariat, through the Secretary-General, extended a warm welcome and thanked His Excellency for his visit and for the support he had demonstrated for the workers and people of Africa. The Secretary-General reminded him that the bonds of solidarity and cooperation between OATUU and Cuba are well rooted in history and will continue to be strengthened in the future. As a reminder, OATUU has always supported the people of Cuba in their fight for sovereignty and the lifting of the embargo that has been imposed on them for 60 years.
