OATUU Delegation Pays Courtesy Visit to Ghana’s Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment

A high-level delegation from the Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU), led by Secretary-General Mr. Arezki Mezhoud, paid a courtesy visit to Ghana’s Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment. The visit aimed to strengthen ties, introduce OATUU’s mission, and discuss the organisation’s historical and contemporary relevance. The delegation included Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Ghana, Brother Joshua Ansah, Brother Alex Bonney, OATUU Treasurer-General, Mr. Ibrahim Abrar Ibrahim, and OATUU Administrative Director, Mrs. Annette. They were warmly received by the recently appointed Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Hon. Dr. Abdul Rashid Hassan Pelpuo. In a cordial and engaging atmosphere, the two parties exchanged ideas on the role of labour movements in fostering socio-economic development across Africa. Mr. Mezhoud gave a brief overview of OATUU’s foundation, objectives, and current activities, highlighting its commitment to advancing workers' rights, unity among African trade unions, and the broader pan-African vision. He also underscored the profound symbolism and strategic importance of Ghana as the host nation for OATUU’s Secretariat. Referring to the legacy of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President and a staunch advocate of pan-Africanism and labour unity, Mr. Mezhoud noted that Ghana’s historical role in shaping the African liberation struggle made it a significant choice for OATUU’s seat. Hon. Dr. Pelpuo welcomed the delegation’s visit and expressed his appreciation for OATUU’s ongoing work in promoting unity and social justice through organized labour. He reiterated Ghana’s readiness to continue supporting the vision and operations of OATUU and looked forward to deeper collaboration in the future.
