Former Deputy Secretary-General of OATUU passes

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Comrade Mzee Michael Besha, former Deputy Secretary-General of the Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU), on October 11, 2024, at Muhimbili Hospital in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Mzee Besha dedicated 20 years of his life to OATUU, where he served as Deputy Secretary-General in charge of Education and Research. He retired during the 10th OATUU Congress held in December 2012 in Algiers, Algeria. Throughout his career, he committed himself wholeheartedly to the cause of African workers, demonstrating unwavering dedication and self-sacrifice. His contributions to the training and education of trade unionists have left a significant impact on the African trade union movement. Many of the leaders shaping today’s labor landscape were nurtured under his guidance.

His passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him. During this painful time, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the comrades of the Trade Union Congress of Tanzania (TUCTA) and to all members of his family. We stand in solidarity with them as they navigate this loss.

May his soul rest in perfect peace!
