The Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) has conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama, and to the Ghana Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the wake of a tragic Ghana Air Force helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight distinguished public servants.
In official messages addressed to the Presidency and the Secretary General of the TUC, Brother Joshua Ansah, OATUU expressed profound sorrow at the loss of key national figures, including the Minister of Defence, Honourable Edward Omane Boamah, the Minister of Environment, Honourable Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and two other top government officials.
OATUU described the incident as a national tragedy and a devastating loss not only for the government and the families of the deceased, but also for the people of Ghana and its labour movement. The organisation paid tribute to the dedicated service of the deceased officials, acknowledging their pivotal roles in Ghana’s development, peace, and progress.
“As an organisation headquartered in Accra and representing workers across the African continent,” the message stated, “we stand in full solidarity with the people of Ghana and honour the memory of the departed.”
OATUU also extended its sympathies to the leadership and entire membership of the Ghana TUC, recognising the close collaboration between trade unions and national institutions in driving social progress.
In this time of national mourning, OATUU reaffirms its commitment to unity and solidarity with Ghana’s people, and prays for peace, comfort, and strength for all those affected by the tragedy.
