The Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) has extended its condolences to the family of the Secretary-General of the National Confederation of Eritrean Workers (NCEW), Tekeste Baire who passed away on 5th October 2022, after a short illness. He left behind a wife and three children.

Comrade Baire joined the Eritrean People’s Liberation Front in 1976 and served his country in various capacities in the Eritrean Workers’ Association in Europe. He also took on the role of head of Public Administration in the Southern Europe Region.

After Independence, Mr. Tekeste Baire has served his country and people diligently as Chairman of the National Confederation of Eritrean Workers since 1994.

His loss has created a gap that cannot easily be filled. We will forever remember his contribution to the trade union movement in Eritrea and in Africa at large. May He rest in perfect peace.
