The National Workers’ Union of Mali (UNTM) has suspended the second phase of its strike which was intended to take place from the 24th of May, 2021 to the 28th of May, 2021. According to a statement released by the Union on the 25th of May, the decision was taken due to the absence of reliable interlocutors needed to take part in the consultative process designed to restore workers’ confidence and promote peace. The union also added that putting the strike on hold was also influenced by the adverse effect the strike was having on workers and the entire population.
Following this suspension, the union has ordered all workers to resume work on the 26th of May, 2021. It is also calling for continuous discussions that will expedite the resolution of claims evoked and the application of the agreements previously concluded.
