A delegation from the Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU), led by its Secretary-General, Mr. Arezki Mezhoud, and its Permanent Representative to the ILO, Mr. Abdoulaye Lelouma Diallo, met with the Director of ACTRAV, Mr. Oliver Röpke, at the ILO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland on 27th March, 2026.
The meeting focused on major issues currently affecting the world of work within an international context marked by geopolitical tensions and growing economic challenges. Also in attendance were ILO Desk Officer for Africa, Mrs. Hilma Kupila Mote, and Head of Communications and Publications, ILO-ACTRAV, Mr. Mamadou Kaba Souaré.
Mr. Mezhoud expressed his gratitude to ACTRAV for its continued support, recalling Mr. Röpke’s recent visit to the OATUU headquarters in Accra, which was widely regarded as a strong demonstration of commitment to African workers. He also conveyed the greetings of OATUU President, Mr. Francis Atwoli, who was unable to attend due to prior engagements.
Discussions highlighted several shared priorities, including combating inequalities, improving working conditions, promoting access to decent employment, and strengthening worker protection in the face of ongoing global crises. Both organisations emphasised the importance of enhanced cooperation to effectively address these challenges, particularly in Africa, where workers remain especially vulnerable.
At the conclusion of the meeting, OATUU and ILO-ACTRAV reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their partnership and advancing concrete actions aimed at improving labour governance and defending workers’ rights across the African continent.
