The Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) has taken part in the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic. OATUU was represented by the Deputy Chair of the African Working Women’s Committee, Ms. Malika Boutaoui. The events were held in the refugee camps, in a symbolic atmosphere reflecting the resilience and struggle of the Sahrawi people.

In her address, Sister Boutaoui conveyed greetings and congratulations to the Sahrawi people and their leadership on this historic occasion, which stands as a milestone in the path of resistance and national struggle. She delivered a message of solidarity on behalf of OATUU to the workers and people of Western Sahara, affirming that the organisation continues to support and stand by the Sahrawi people in their just cause.

Sister Boutaoui also praised the pivotal role of Sahrawi women in the resistance, highlighting their resilience and sacrifices as a cornerstone of the national struggle for freedom and dignity. She stressed that the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination is inalienable, as enshrined in the resolutions of the United Nations and the African Union. She emphasised that this position reflects OATUU’s unwavering commitment to solidarity and the defense of people fighting for freedom and justice.
