AU-OATUU 2018 Partnership Forum is launched

The 9th AU-OATUU Annual Partnership Forum started today, Wednesday 9th August 2018 in Dar Es Salaam , Tanzania.  This year forum is focused on the topic: “Development and transformation of Africa through good gouvernance, role of trade unions in winning the fight against corruption

The opening ceremony was marked by the welcoming address of the guests of honour, Mr. Arezki MEHZOUD, OATUU Secretary General; Mr. Tumaini Peter NYAMHOKYA, TUCTA Secretary General; Mr Emmanuel CAREW, AU Regional Policy Officer, highlighted by the address of a Representative of  The Tanzanian Government, Ms Maimuna Tarishi, Permanent Secretary of The Prime Minister Office.

The Objectives of the forum, as stated by Mr. NZUNDA TITUS Emmanuel, moderator of the opening ceremony, are as follows:

  • To create awareness amongst Trade Unions on the need to support GoodGovernance and fight against corruption.
  • Popularizing AU 2063 Agenda
  • To engage their Governments in the process of formulation, implementation,monitoring and evaluation of national policies and programmes that lead to

    the development and transformation of Africa through Good Governance.

  • To identify specific home-grown policies and programmes that will developand transform Africa.
  • To identify the mechanisms oh the intervention of trade unions to promoteAU 2063 Agenda and fight against corruption.

Addressing to participants, Mr. Tumaini remarked that” the choice of this year’s theme was not by chance because it reflects what is currently happening in our workplaces, affecting our families, work and countries“. He added that “trade unions should set a good example of zero tolerance on corruption at workplaces and in our countries“.

Mr. Arezki expressed his …on the fact that corruption is not part as trade unions concerns. He said that “Trade Unions are concern about workers and the first victims of corruption are workers. For that reason, corruption is a problem for trade unionists“.

According to Mr NZUNDA, at the end of this forum, we expect to:

  • Create Awareness amongst Trade Unions on the need to support GoodGovernance and fight against corruption
  • Engage Trade union Leaders in the process of formulation, implementation,monitoring and evaluation of national policies and programmes that lead to

    the development and transformation of Africa through Good Governance.

  • Identify Specific home-grown policies and programmes that will developand transform Africa.

The Forum is a 3Days programme ending Saturday 11th of August 2018.
