OATUU Participates in Opening Ceremony of 109th Session of ILC

The Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) has attended the opening ceremony of the 109th Session of the International Labour Conference. The virtual conference took off with an opening statement by the President of the Conference, H.E. Mr. Omar Zniber who acknowledged the unusual format of this year’s conference.  Addressing all participants, he expressed what an honour it was for him to preside over the conference as President and pledged to do his best to ensure that this unique format of hosting the ILC would be a success.

Mr. Zniber with the help of the Clerk of the Conference, Ms. Dimitrina Dimitrova, also revealed the various committees for this year’s conference, including the credentials committee, the finance committee and the Covid response committee. This was followed by a presentation of the various tripartite representatives and officials nominated for the committees that had been established. Concluding his remarks, Mr. Zniber said the Secretariat had done their best to promote the success of this year’s conference and encouraged all participants to contribute their quota.

The Director-General of the ILO, Guy Ryder also gave his welcome address in which he expressed the Secretariat’s commitment to ensuring a successful conference this year despite the challenges. According to Mr. Ryder, having the conference was one more step in overcoming Covid-19 and the challenges it had introduced.
