Upon the invitation of UGTA, the President of the Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU), Dr. Francis Atwoli, accompanied by the OATUU Secretary-General, Mr. Arezki Mezhoud paid a courtesy visit to Algeria.
The President’s first stop was the headquarters of UGTA, where he met with the Secretary-General, Amar Takdjout. During this meeting, attended by the UGTA leadership, both parties exchanged ideas on enhancing cooperation between OATUU and UGTA discussing the current situation and challenges faced by trade unions in Africa. They agreed to strengthen their collaboration by organising joint activities. The UGTA Secretary General committed to providing resources to bolster OATUU’s capacity.
The OATUU President, Dr. Atwoli expressed satisfaction with UGTA’s warm reception, emphasising that UGTA continues to play a crucial role among Pan-African trade unions and consistently supports African workers.
Following this visit, Dr, Atwoli was received by the Algerian Minister of Labour, Employment, and Social Security, Fayçal Bentaleb at the ministry’s headquarters. The Minister reiterated his willingness to support the union movement and emphasized his commitment to continuing to uphold workers’ rights both in Algeria and across Africa.
