The Secretary-General of the Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU), Mr. Arezki Mezhoud, has participated in the 13th BRICS Trade Union Forum which took place in Sochi, Russia from 7th to 6th September, 2024. The event, held under the theme ‘Strengthening Multilateralism for Equitable Global Development and Security’ brought together trade union leaders from BRICS nations—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa and other countries across the globe. The BRICS Trade Union Forum presented an important platform for discussing global labor issues, economic challenges, and the future of work in developing countries.
As the representative of Africa’s unified trade unions, Mr. Mezhoud is advocating for stronger cooperation between African and BRICS countries, emphasizing the importance of labor protection, social justice, and equitable economic growth across all nations. With the African continent facing unique challenges, such as youth unemployment and informal labor, Mr. Mezhoud’s participation ensures that the voices of African workers are heard in shaping the global labor agenda.
