The Secretary-General of the Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU), Mr. Arezki Mezhoud, graced the 12th Quadrennial Delegates Congress of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) Ghana, held at the Pentecost Convention Centre, Gomoa Fetteh, near Accra, from August 18th to 22nd, 2024. The Congress was held under the theme: “Sustaining and Leveraging the Power of Trade Unions in a Challenging Economic Environment.”
In his address, Mr. Mezhoud extended warm greetings to the delegates and reaffirmed OATUU’s unwavering solidarity with TUC Ghana. He highlighted the critical role of trade unions in advocating for workers’ rights, especially in the face of economic challenges that have affected many African countries.
Mr. Mezhoud also expressed his appreciation for the Ghanaian government’s ongoing support and assistance to OATUU, underscoring the importance of collaboration between governments and trade unions to achieve shared goals. In addition, Mr. Mezhoud conveyed his gratitude to the leadership and members of TUC Ghana for their commitment to the trade union movement and their unwavering dedication to improving the lives of workers. He commended TUC Ghana for organizing the Congress, which serves as a vital platform for trade union leaders and members to discuss strategies, share experiences, and chart the way forward.
The 12th Quadrennial Delegates Congress brought together representatives from various trade unions across Ghana, regional and international labor organizations, and other stakeholders.
