The Organization of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) in collaboration with the Bureau of Workers’ Activities (ACTRAV) is organizing a 2-Days Workshop on ILO Centenary: Advancing Social Justice, Promoting Decent Work, Role of Trade Unions at The Sarova Stanley Hotel, in Nairobi,Kenya on 17th-18th September 2019.
The opening ceremony , happening in The Churchill Ballroom of the Hotel today 17th September 2019, started with the Kenyan National Anthem followed by a Word of Prayer to commit the Works of the Workshop. Opening remarks and Greetings were the chore of the ceremony.
This ceremony was highlighted by the presence of H.E Kalonzo MUSYOKO, Former Vice President of Kenya; Dr. Mohammed Mwamadzingo, Director of ACTRAV-AFRICA; Dr. AYUBA WABBA, NLC & ITUC GLOBAL President; Mr. Benson OKWARO Deputy Secretary General of COTU-K, ; Comrade Arezki MEZHOUD, OATUU Secretary General.
In his address, Comrade Arezki said that the current world is a world of inequality, a world of injustice and the aim of Trade Unions is to eliminate these inequalities in all their forms. It is in this regards that workers have chosen to popularize the Centenary Declaration only adopted last 3 months.
He added that this workshop will allow us to formulate an approach that will help us to work in this direction.
At the end of the program, the workshop is set to:
- To Create awareness on ILO Centenary Declaration and its content
- To Popularize the global commission report on the future of work and its recommendations
- To discuss and adopt national trade unions strategies and actions on the promotion and implementation of the ILO Centenary Declaration 2019.
