The Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) will convene its 46th General Council in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from 20th to 22nd August 2025, under the theme “Unity and Action for Social Justice.”
The General Council, OATUU’s highest decision-making body, will bring together leaders and delegates from various African trade unions, alongside distinguished partners and stakeholders in the world of work. This important meeting will serve as a platform for reflection, exchange, and decisive action towards advancing workers’ rights and deepening social justice across the continent.
The choice of the theme underscores the urgent need for collective action in addressing Africa’s pressing socio-economic challenges — from decent work deficits and inequality to the impact of global crises on African labour markets. It also affirms OATUU’s longstanding commitment to solidarity, unity, and the pursuit of equity in the face of changing realities in the world of work.
Hosted in the historic city of Dar es Salaam, the 46th General Council will feature deliberations on key policy issues, reports on organisational progress, and the adoption of strategies to strengthen the African trade union movement. Participants will have the opportunity to share experiences, forge stronger networks, and reaffirm the shared vision of a prosperous, fair, and inclusive Africa for all workers.
