Catelene Passchier ILO Chair of Workers’ Group Visit to OATUU

The Vice Chair of the International Labor Organization (ILO) Governing Body and Chair of Workers’ Group Mrs. Catelene Passchier visited the Headquarters of the Organization of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) in Accra,Ghana today Wednesday, December 11th 2019.

The meeting hosted by the Secretary General of OATUU Comrade Arezki Mehzoud and OATUU Treasurer Gerneral Comrade Ibrahim Abrar Ibrahim was mainly about discussing the role of OATUU in the implementation of policies about women inclusion and the organization of the informal sector.

Mrs. Catelene strongly recommended to strengthen Women Commission to make sure that policies are not only drafted but implemented. OATUU is supporting its Women Commission activities in order to be able to implement policies directly related to Women.

The need to organize the informal sector is no more to be mentioned as it is a “must-do” for Trade Unions. Comrade Arezki assured that OATUU is supporting its affiliates in organizing the informal sector as they represent according to ILO about 66% of the total employment in Sub-Sahara Africa.
