OATUU calls on African countries to resist threats against democracy as it celebrates May Day

Amidst the May Day celebration, the Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) has called on all African countries to stand against any threat to democracy on the continent. This follows the conflict in Sudan that has led to the loss of hundreds of lives and the injury of many others. Adding to that, peace and security in the region have been compromised, making it difficult for the Sudanese people to go about their daily routines.

On this historic day, OATUU is encouraging all workers’ organisations to amplify their voices and ensure that the pursuit of social justice and decent work for all continues unabated, especially in these times, when global conflicts and challenges seek to jeopardize the milestones that have been achieved.

Moreover, as the world of work experiences changes due to environmental and technological advancement, OATUU is charging trade unions to innovate and develop new strategies to organize new forms of work. There is also a need to adapt to the changing world of work by retooling and upskilling in various areas, interests, and demands.
