The Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) has released a statement condemning the military coup which took place in Guinea and is demanding the immediate release of the Guinean President, Alpha Conde. The Guinean President was taken captive by the country’s armed forces on the 5th of September, 2021. His capture was shortly followed by a broadcast on the state television, with the special forces commander, Mamady Doumbouya announcing the dissolution of the government and constitution.
In the statement published by OATUU, the organisation is calling on the African Union and ECOWAS to “take rigorous measures to put a definitive end to force and violence as a means of access to power”. Find the statement below.
