OATUU participates in the 25th UGTT Congress

The Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) has participated in the 25th Congress of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT). Secretary-General of the Organisation, Brother Arezki Mezhoud, was present at the event which was held from the 16th to 18th of February 2022 in Sfax, Tunisia. The Congress, attended by some 600 delegates, was organised under the theme “We value the sovereignty of our choice and for a Tunisia of freedom, democracy and social justice”. Several national, regional and international organisations also attended the Congress.

After the opening ceremony, Mr. Mezhoud, who shared a few words, thanked the UGTT for having invited OATUU to its five-year national conference and expressed the active solidarity of African workers to the union. He acknowledged the struggle of Tunisian workers who have always been at the forefront of the struggle for freedom, democracy and social justice. He added that the UGTT had distinguished itself since its creation in 1946, by its commitment to the emancipation of African workers and people, and concluded saying that the UGTT was an essential force in Tunisia.
