OATUU partners with International Institute of Social History to digitize archives

The Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) in partnership with the International Institute of Social History is working to digitize its archives. This project which is likely to span a period of 2 years will help OATUU safeguard the information it has gathered over the years and preserve it for posterity. It will be spearheaded by two social historians who work with the institute; Regional Specialist for Africa, Andreas Admasie and Senior Researcher, Stefano Bellucci.

Speaking to Mr. Bellucci, he revealed that there is a massive wave of digitizing archives, however, there is minimal personal history in the public domain. This project would therefore provide the opportunity for workers’ organisations to contribute to telling their history instead of having outsiders take up the task. Furthermore, researchers would have an avenue to access a piece of history as presented from an authentic African perspective.
