The Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) represented by Assistant Secretaries-General, Mr. Emmanuel Nzunda and Mr. Valentine Udeh recently participated in the China-Africa Trade Union Leaders Seminar in Beijing, China, from October 16th to 23rd, 2024. Held under the theme “The Path to Modernisation and the Role of Trade Unions,” the seminar focused on exploring the transformative potential of trade unions in driving modernization efforts across Africa and China.
During the seminar, participants had the unique opportunity to exchange insights with leaders from African trade unions like COSATU and representatives from the International Labour Organization (ILO). A key component of the seminar was a dedicated forum on China-Africa cooperation, with the conversation centered on strategic collaboration between the two regions.
The itinerary included visits to Beijing, Hunan Province, and Guangdong Province, where participants were introduced to local industries, union-led initiatives, and the cultural heritage that shapes the social landscape of modern China. These experiences underscored the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing in achieving sustainable economic progress.
