The Algerian Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Receives the OATUU Secretary-General

The Algerian Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, H.E. Abdelhak Saihi, received the Secretary-General of the Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) , Mr. Arezki Mezhoud in the presence of the Secretary-General of the General Union of Algerian Workers (UGTA), Mr. Amar Takjout. The meeting was dedicated to an exchange of views and perspectives on social and trade union issues of common interest at both the African and international levels.

The discussions provided an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of strengthening social dialogue and supporting African trade union action in a way that contributes to the promotion of workers’ rights, the improvement of working conditions, and the consolidation of the principles of social justice and solidarity among African peoples. Both sides further explored avenues for enhancing cooperation between Algeria and the Organisation of African Trade Union Unity, as well as improving coordination on initiatives aimed at supporting workers’ causes across the African continent, particularly in light of current economic and social challenges.

The Minister highlighted the Algerian experience in the field of social dialogue and the promotion of workers’ rights, stressing the importance of continuing efforts to strengthen social protection systems and develop consultation mechanisms among social partners in the interest of workers and national development.

On his part, Mr. Arezki Mezhoud reiterated his appreciation for the role played by Algeria in supporting African causes and advancing trade union action, commending the country’s efforts in protecting the social and professional rights of workers and promoting African solidarity. At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening African cooperation and joint action in the service of development, stability, and social justice across the continent.
