The Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) has held its preparatory meeting on 31st May 2026 at the International Conference Centre Geneva (CICG), ahead of the International Labour Conference.
The session was opened by Vice President, Joshua Ansah, who emphasised the importance of strengthened coordination to ensure a coherent and influential African representation.
The Secretary-General, Mr. Arezki Mezhoud presented the agenda, recalling OATUU’s strategic role, the major challenges facing the African trade union movement, and the organisation’s continued support for the ILO.
The Deputy Secretary-General then provided delegates with practical information regarding the Conference’s procedures, participation modalities, and essential logistical arrangements.
Discussions focused on organising the participation of African delegates, harmonising trade union positions on the Conference agenda items, and addressing various coordination matters.
This meeting represents a key step in ensuring a united, structured, and effective African contribution to the international labour discussions.
